This blue cheese ball comes from a family recipe that goes back as far as I can remember. It’s been such a tradition that even my own children consider this a standard dish at Christmas parties and get togethers with family. Perhaps because of the green and red bell peppers, but I’ve even had it at Fourth Of July get togethers and replaced the green bell peppers with blue berries for a more patriotic look. Serve with your favorite crackers and you’ll have a hit on your hands. Of course you must enjoy blue cheese to appreciate this appetizer. In our family that’s not a problem, when our youngest daughter was just three she enjoyed eating blue cheese, full strength, which so surprised me to say the least. She definitely was not switched at birth. Continue reading
As a kid growing up we always had cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving and Christmas. It was OK, but I always considered it a bit bitter and one dimensional. In fact, I preferred the jelly from the can (I know, I feel rather ashamed of that but it is a fact non the less). So I phased out the old recipe I grew up on. The Gulf of Mexico restores us. Normally our minds are on a hundred different things, and as soon as our feet hit the beach we calm down and live in the moment, only aware of the sea gulls squawking and the tide moving in and out as we scour the sand below us for treasures washed up from distant shores. Walking on the beach in relative solitude ironically makes me feel more connected to everyone, maybe because the warm gulf waters connect to the rest of the world in some fashion. Continue reading
We enjoy stir fry and these accompany the meal well. Also, I’ve served these in smaller size as appetizers and they were always a hit. In fact, when we would have a get together I actually had requests to serve them. You can pair them up with a sweet and sour sauce, mustard sauce or any other you may like. They are a big hit at Super Bowl Parties! Continue reading
At least I think so. I’ve made the classic Key Lime Pie recipe a few times, but the sweetened condensed milk masked the flavor of the lime so much that I could barely tell what I was eating. Sure, it was dessert, and that’s always nice in my book, but I wanted more. Continue reading
